Description
“Towards the Old Workhouse, Market Hill, Maldon”
This signed and numbered open edition small collectors print of an original painting shows shows the steep Market Hill towards Fullbridge. One the way down is the Old Workhouse an 18th Century timber framed building which served the poor of Maldon and the surrounding area. I can only imagine the many stories this building has experienced. The workhouse was a source of much fear by those who were poor as once inside conditions were harsh and families separated. Now it is divided into several townhouses and apartments.
In the foreground is The well known Grade II listed Red House once known as The Prince of Wales public house, which has been restored and can now be rented to stay and explore the area.
