How to Commission a Bespoke Original Painting
Commissioning a painting from Maldon Studios means working directly with the artist to bring your ideas to life. Whether you want a meaningful place captured, a memory turned into art, or a personal gift that will be treasured forever, I work with you every step of the way to create something unique and beautiful.
How the Commission Process Works
Enquire
Start by sending an enquiry with the following information:
- Your idea or brief
- Preferred size
- Any deadline you have
I aim to reply within 3 working days with guidance, availability, and an estimated price.
Discussion & Agreement
Once I have your details, we’ll discuss composition, size, pricing, and any special details. When you’re happy to proceed, I will issue a quote. Once agreed, I will send two copies of an agreement for us both to sign. You keep one copy for your records.
Deposit & Booking
A non refundable deposit is required to begin work. This secures your slot in my studio schedule and covers time, materials, and creative development.
Creation
I begin your artwork mock up and send it to you by email for approval. Once approved, I will begin work on the commissioned piece.
Final Approval
When your piece is complete, I will invite you to approve the final artwork.
Final Payment & Delivery
Once you approve the finished painting and the balance is paid, I will carefully package and dispatch your artwork to you.
Cost of Delivery
Any delivery costs will be assessed and passed on for payment before your commission is sent.
Deposit, Payments & Terms
- A non refundable deposit is required before any work begins.
- The remaining balance is due upon approval of the finished artwork.
- Your commissioned painting will be shipped only after the final payment is received.
Returns & Cancellations
Because commissioned paintings are created specifically for you, they cannot be returned once accepted. If for any reason you decide not to proceed before work has begun, your deposit will not be refunded. Your deposit covers time, materials, and creative commitment.
This policy is consistent with standard art commission practice where bespoke work is exempt from cancellation rights once confirmed.
Timeframes
Typical completion times vary depending on size and current workload. Most commissions take 4 to 8 weeks from the date of deposit to completion, but if you have a specific deadline please let me know at the time of enquiry.
