About Maldon Painting – “Painting the Sails, Hythe Quay, Maldon”
Original painting “Painting the Sails, Hythe Quay, Maldon” depicts an – only to be seen here in Maldon – view. The large sails of one the old Thames Barges gets some restorative work. Painted the distinctive red ochre. Thames Barge Kitty sits elegantly in the background. You can take tea or go for a sail in one of the Thames Barges with Topsail Charters here on Hythe Quay. Once the East Coasts traditional cargo vessel – at the turn of the century the Thames Sailing Barge fleet numbered over 2,000 – today only a handful of traditional Barges survive.
This is part of my growing catalogue of original paintings depicting my new(ish) home and forms part of my first exhibition of ten new original paintings. It is my first response of my experience exploring the locale over the last few years. Maldon is a such lovely town with many places of interest making it a really lovely day out from the history of the ancient buildings to beauty of the countryside or go for a trip in our very own Thames Barges – unique to Maldon.

Most people choose to hang my work without a frame so you can see the process where I have laid the canvas on the floor and dripped, spilled, and thrown the paint. Tray frames are recommended should you wish have this framed. I can arrange this for you.
