This is a commission for a leaving present for the headmaster of Fairlawn School as a gift from the staff and parents. Since leaving Mr Boucher has been honoured with a knighthood. I’m certainly honoured to have been selected to paint this work. My feeling on visiting the school was one of uplifting and a sense of joy as well as well run place of learning. I had the idea of having some of the children walking towards their future with the school behind them. There is a mural by famous artist John Verney (Royal Festival Hall), which I felt essential to the image. I took the colour from this and reflected them in the children. I hope he likes the painting. I’ve been on holiday and it is school holiday’s now…so will have to wait to find out how it went.
