A couple walking past Beauberry House on the way into Dulwich Village. They had visited me at Artists Open House as part of the Dulwich Festival, but had just missed out on a painting so I gave them the option of a commission which they were really pleased with. I asked them to send me a photograph of them walking past and upon seeing the finished result they were delighted and said that I had created something which, the them, felt very romantic.

Brought for a couple as a wedding present by their friends. It shows the flat in which the bride lived prior to her wedding on Clapham Pavement above her well used local shops. Once married she would be leaving London and the familiar trip on the bus into work. I thought it would be an idea to have her husband taking her by the hand as they run barefoot across Clapham and away from her old life and into their future.

Based on the idea of the engagement of a couple who came to see me at the Lambeth Open last October following their wedding. We discussed my putting some people playing boules in the Autumn sunshine with the couple on the bench in Culver Square, Kennington near the Duke of Edinburgh pub. I made up an image and then as I painted imagined the couple playing boules and the couple on the bench being one and the same. Is he playing boules or about to go down on one knee? Are the couple on bench dreaming of the future…
